WARREN DOBSON (Nova Scotia, Canada): Author of U for Ukulele, a classroom ukulele method that integrates Kodaly principles with classroom ukulele instruction for young students, Warren holds a Master's Degree in Education from Acadia University and currently teaches music in Mill Village, Nova Scotia. JOHN KING (19532009): One of the world's foremost scholars of ukulele history, John was a virtuoso ukulelist who pioneered the campanella ukulele style. PETER LUONGO (British Columbia, Canada): A former administrator in the Langley School District and director emeritus of the Langley Ukulele Ensemble, Peter has devoted his life to working with young musicians. Under his tutelage hundreds of students have had the opportunity to further their singing and ukulele playing skills while developing positive attitudes toward leadership and showmanship. More

LORNA MACPHEE (19462009): A veteran ukulele teacher, experienced workshop clinician, and regular contributor to Ukulele Yes! magazine, Lorna served as ukulele specialist in Langley during the mid-1970s during which time she founded the Langley Ukulele Ensemble. In addition to her work as a music teacher, Lorna lent her proof-reading and editing talents to numerous publications including The Walrus and Literary Review of Canada.

MARVEN SHIELDS (Saskatchewan, Canada): An innovative and energetic teacher, Marven is the author of the landmark ukulele text A Music Reading Program for Ukulele. Formerly Supervisor of Music in Melford, Saskatchewan, Marven is now retired and lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

BONNIE SMITH (British Columbia, Canada): A veteran ukulele teacher and the founder of the Island Ukuleles ensemble, Bonnie holds a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Victoria. She currently specializes in curriculum development and design as well as web design and distributed learning.

JAMIE THOMAS (British Columbia, Canada): A full-time music teacher at Belmont Elementary School in Langley, BC, Jamie was once a pupil of Chalmers Doane in his native Nova Scotia. Since re-locating to the west coast in the early 1990s, Jamie has introduced thousands of students (including a young James Hill) to the ukulele. “Mr. T,” as he’s known to students, has an inimitable charisma in the classroom and a knack for making music class fun.

CAM TROWSDALE (19332022): Concertmaster Emeritus of both the CBC Radio Orchestra and the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, as well as Professor Emeritus of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Trowsdale has long been an outspoken proponent of ukulele in music education. Former editor of Ukulele Yes! magazine, Cam currently lives on Galiano Island, BC.

BILL WALLACE (New Brunswick, Canada): A former Supervisor of Music in New Brunswick, Canada, Bill is the author of the remarkable thesis A History of the Doane Ukulele Method 1961-1989: A Performance-based Approach to Music Education. Bill holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Arts.

BYRON YASUI (Hawaii, USA): Byron has been on the music theory / composition faculty at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa since 1972, where he presently chairs graduate studies in music. Dr. Yasui has performed as an ukulele soloist with the Honolulu Symphony and is recognized as a master of both jazz and traditional ukulele styles.
